The TDS gateway is a program which will take connections coming from FreeTDS or Sybase's Openclient and translate them into another databases wire protocol. The first database will be PostgreSQL. This means that if you have a program hitting a Sybase or MS-SQL Server database you may change the backend to PostgreSQL (as long as you didn't use Transact SQL extensions...right?) without changing the clients.
TDS Gateway is in the planning stages right now. It will operate very similarly to the OpenClient Gateway that comes with SQL-Anywhere, only it will (eventually) support multiple databases.
