Re: books on hydroponics
To add to the book list (though its a bit old)
Advanced Guide to Hydroponics by James Sholto Douglas
Pelham Books
originally UKPounds 11.95
I have the 1985 edition which has a large supplement updating
the original edition. 361 pages
Covers principally commercial operations but also home sized
setups and also a large number of techniques and variants from
all over the world with commentary.
14 pages of formulae in a mixture of ppm and grm per
litre. Extensive instructions on how to convert between the two,
convert to pounds/ounces/gallons, how to make and use solutions
for testing nutrient fluids. Discussion of many types of techniques
incluing comparison of aggregates worldwide.
Weaknesses;
does not give formulae for specific crops but has
comments such as <.....need ample supplies of potassium, phosphorous
and iron> and pH should be on the acid side.
almost no comment on light levels
Sources of prepared nutrient mixes:
He suggests
<Phostrogen> available in many countries (The makers also do a free
leaflet with diagrams and instructions which is quite good for the
home user with a square yard or so). i have used it with reasonable
results (though I prefer a different product probably not available
in the USA)
