I SAW HAWKWIND 4 TIMES, FINALLY MEETING THE WHOLE BAND IN THE DRESSING ROOMS AT OXFORD APOLLO I VIVIDLY REMEMBER DAVE BROCK AS HAVING AN INCREDIBLY FIRM HANDSHAKE.
IT WAS A MAGICAL SLIGHTLY MUSHROOM INDUCED EVENING THAT I WILL TREASURE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. THE PHOTOS EVEN CAME OUT O.K!

Thanks for the site, Phil. Such a lousy letter writer it's good to have another way to keep in contact. It's been good to have news of old friends. Nostalgia rules OK. Here in the deep south all is well. It's Summertime and the livin' is easy. We look forward to hearing from you.

Ignorant of Grey Day, I tried to link to their site but it was busy today. I hope it becomes an annual event, I would love to participate. I have had images plundered and posted all over the web. I lost a sale of my work because the potential buyer questioned whether or not I was actually the copyright holder. Freelance photographers don't get paid shit to go on assignment. We get paid for results, not time or energy spent. Thanks Mr. Franks for taking a stand. And piss on the thieves out there.

Hi Phil,
Just got back from the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. They have a display there on "teenage rebellion" featuring a copy of Friends (with an 'S'). On the cover is a picture of Nik Turner playing his sax by a tree, wearing starry-jeans and some kind of woolen contraption on his head, the headline "The Stoned Friends Interview: Hawkwind". One of yours? I was very tempted to break into the display case for a read ;-)

Dude, I like the picture of Zappa from Chunga's Revenge. That's always been one of my personal favorite album covers. I always figured he was up on stage screaming or something, but I guess it makes sense in the context of Frank Zappa that it was only a yawn. P.S. If anyone knows of good (and I mean GOOD) Zappa sites, please e-mail me.

dear phil,
you and your camera were at and illustrate the fabled lives that some of us longed to have lived (born ten years too late).
during my twenties i found the entire pink fairies assembled around my mum's breakfast table, mixing cornflakes with captain morgan's rum. they signed my fairies records but the manager never did give me the free gig tickets in exchange for the cricket bats!
mind you they did go off that day and record 'white girls on amphetamine' so the i dont feel hard done by.
(and my mum still refers to 'those nice young fairies')

p.s. couldn't get the second page of fairies photos to load the images.

Thanx for the message from the robot - I'm happy to have my memory regularly refreshed. What happened to Quintessence? Raja Ram, Shiva etc etc. Does anyone out there know? Are they living in Hackney under assumed names? eg Nigel or Cyril??? Do you have any Kevin Ayers archive stuff? - I saw him fall off a stool giggling at Essex University around 70, 71??? It was the only Kevin Ayers gig I ever saw - at the time I thought it was great value for money but I don't remember any actual tunes. PS Are there any photos of New Labour MPs inhaling? Well Phil, I finally got my Honey Do List done. Which
allowed me some time on zee computor. Therefore, I had
to be very selected on where to go. There was one food for
thought item that I have been digesting since the early 70's and have been very curious to find out. I found the answers on your road map to get lost and I did..
The Pink Floyd Archives is brillantly done and thats were I found my answer on what happen to Syd Barrett...
It was well worth the journey..
More travels and journeys to come later via your site...

A special note to all in Britain.
Joe Satriani is heading your way and I highly recommend
seeing his gigs...Reminds of the early days of Steve
Hillage (wish he would still play some of those days)..
**Additional info: www.satriani.com Check out tour site.
He's kicking off his world tour here at Boulder on the
15th April and bet your bootes that I'll be there!
Peace.:}

My father turned me on to your sound. I fell in love with Hawkwind's music. I'm a 23yr old guitar player. I'm working on achieving a sound which will sooth the sonic beast when heard. I feel that my best playing is when I am totally in tune with the help on my favorite sinsemilla. I hope to one of these days put together a tape of my achievments and pass it around.

well, i've been listening to mr.z since i first heard "freak out" waaaaay back in the summer of '66. i followed the man thru all his trials and tribulations over the years. of course, at that time all the truly hip folks were groovin' on the grateful dead, and i lived my life alone. i met him in portland, oregon, in august 1971, and saw him perform seven times. now that he's gone, he's finally being "discovered". damn, i sure miss him! hellooooo frank zappa....arf, she said.

The Movie will begin in five moments
the mindless voice announced
All those unseated
will await the next show

we filed slowly, languidly into the hall
the adutorium was vast and silent
as we seated and were darkened the voice continued

The program for this evening is not new
you've seen it through and through
you've seen your birth, your life and death
you might recall all of the rest
Did you have a good world when you died
enough to base a movie on

The passing of midwinter and waiting for Bridget's day; a poem:

NIGHT SHIFT

The gulls have wheeled the cliff's face
Where the rocks and crags are and caves suck the sea
Loosened billows toss and fly
And shiver on pools where shore folk cry.
I taste my mouth and watch from the west window,
Another day.
I check the time.
