I lost a sale of my work because the potential buyer questioned whether or not I was actually the copyright holder. Freelance photographers don't get paid shit to go on assignment. Just got back from the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. They have a display there on "teenage rebellion" featuring a copy of Friends (with an 'S'). On the cover is a picture of Nik Turner playing his sax by a tree, wearing starry-jeans and some kind of woolen contraption on his head, the headline "The Stoned Friends Interview: Hawkwind". One of yours? I was very tempted to break into the display case for a read ;-)

I always figured he was up on stage screaming or something, but I guess it makes sense in the context of Frank Zappa that it was only a yawn. P.S. NIK TURNER IS UNPARRELLED IN THE FIELD OF SPACE/TRIP/PSYCHEDELIC WHAT EVER THE HELL YOU CALL IT. HIS SHOW IN SHERMAN WAS UNBELIEVABLE.HE WAS ON CRUTCHED AND PUT ON A EARTH SHAKING SHOW THEN DID A SOLO JAM FOR US WHO HE UNDERSTOOD OUR PARTY WASN'T OVER YET.I CAN'T WAIT TILL HE GETS BACK IN THE STATES. dear phil,
you and your camera were at and illustrate the fabled lives that some of us longed to have lived (born ten years too late).
during my twenties i found the entire pink fairies assembled around my mum's breakfast table, mixing cornflakes with captain morgan's rum. they signed my fairies records but the manager never did give me the free gig tickets in exchange for the cricket bats!
mind you they did go off that day and record 'white girls on amphetamine' so the i dont feel hard done by.
(and my mum still refers to 'those nice young fairies')

Thanx for the message from the robot - I'm happy to have my memory regularly refreshed. What happened to Quintessence? Raja Ram, Shiva etc etc. Does anyone out there know? Are they living in Hackney under assumed names? eg Nigel or Cyril??? Do you have any Kevin Ayers archive stuff? - I saw him fall off a stool giggling at Essex University around 70, 71??? It was the only Kevin Ayers gig I ever saw - at the time I thought it was great value for money but I don't remember any actual tunes. PS Are there any photos of New Labour MPs inhaling? They must all be about our age.

thought item that I have been digesting since the early 70's and have been very curious to find out. I found the answers on your road map to get lost and I did..
The Pink Floyd Archives is brillantly done and thats were I found my answer on what happen to Syd Barrett...

I played with a South Louisiana Swamp Pop band called "Randy and the Rockets" in those days... Also caught youall at "Slicks" in St. Martinville... Best to you alwayse... "keep on rockin"

My father turned me on to your sound. I fell in love with Hawkwind's music. I'm a 23yr old guitar player. I'm working on achieving a sound which will sooth the sonic beast when heard. I feel that my best playing is when I am totally in tune with the help on my favorite sinsemilla. I hope to one of these days put together a tape of my achievments and pass it around.

Its been a while since the last visit. Nice to see and hear new voices. Phil, you come a long way since the days when gigs were known by word of mouth. I see that all the hard work you have place into this journey has reach the far corners throughout this world. For that, I salute you..

well, i've been listening to mr.z since i first heard "freak out" waaaaay back in the summer of '66. i followed the man thru all his trials and tribulations over the years. of course, at that time all the truly hip folks were groovin' on the grateful dead, and i lived my life alone. i met him in portland, oregon, in august 1971, and saw him perform seven times. now that he's gone, he's finally being "discovered". damn, i sure miss him! hellooooo frank zappa....arf, she said.
