Don't let users get lost on your site
The user should be able to tell with just a quick glance their location on your site. Navigation should be clear and concise, with location defined within the navigation. This can be done with text headers and/or footers.

Think Yahoo's navigation system. As you go deeper in their site, your location is indicated at the top of the page in the Category:Sub-category:... format. This works wonderfully because each category is a link to that page. Makes for easy movement through the site. Wonderful!

This site provides the category location in the "web.design101" header. Also, the links at the top and bottom of the page allow movement between topics while leaving the present topic unclickable (kind of a you are here sort of thing).
