Buddy had asked:

<<I have two eager men at church who will be going into the ministry and
are preparing to go to Seminary in a few years. I am really leaning
toward teaching them modern greek because I see some definite advantages
and I would introduce them of course to erasmus pronounciation but my
emphasis would be modern greek. Does anyone see any real harm in doing
this?>>

While I realize, as the rest of your post indicated, that you are apparently
not interested in whether the Erasmian system of pronunciation is correct, I
suggest you read Chrys R. Caragounis, "The Error of Erasmus and Un-Greek
Pronunciations of Greek," Filologia Neotestamentaria 8 (November 1995),
151-184. I know of no better, more up-to-date resource for a history of all
the relevant issues pertaining to this subject.
