I would have thought this pretty straightforward, once one recognizes that
hOU in this instance is the relative adverb, "where," equivalent to the
earlier Greek hOPOU. The text says, "We went outside the gate alongside the
river, where we thought there was a place of prayer." Thus: EINAI is
existential "to exist," PROSEUCHN is the subject of EINAI, hOU is the
adverb construed with EINAI and referring back to the area designated by
"outside the gate by the river," and the acc. + inf. is governed by
ENOMIZOMEN, "we supposed," "we imagined."
