The lack of italicization is not surprising, since italics are reserved
in NA27 for OT quotes (cf Introduction p 50). And I think that Garrett
is close to the mark with his comment on "creed-like formula." (In
addition to 1Tim 3:16, we have 1Thess 5:16-22; 1Tim 2:5-6, 6:11-12,
6:15-16; 2Tim 1:9-10; Col 1:15-20 and--of course--the Carmen Christi in
Phil 2:5-11).
I was surprised that the Intro to NA27 did not include any comment on
the editors' decisions for determining & indicating poetics; however,
even without specific info in the edition, it is clear that this is what
has been done. The indentation of v 18 is due to a poetic structure of
the text; such poetic structure itself is usually seen as evidencing an
early Church confession/creed/hymn.
