<x-flowed>I certainly agree that "slave" is the only appropriate translation for
doulos, but as has been pointed ou it must not have the nagative
associations of more modern slavery. As an example of the status of the
slave in NT times, it might be of interest to note that in certain mystery
religions such as Mithraism, a slave could be of a higher grade than his
master in the same chapter, and that in this case the master would be as it
were subservient to his own slave within the context of Mithraic activity.
