In John 20:1 it appears to me that "early, [it] still being dark" (PRWI
SKOTIAS ETI OUSHS) modifies the clause "Mary went to the tomb" (MARIA
ERCETAI EIS TO MNHMEION), with SKOTIAS ETI OUSHS even modifying PRWI.
THi DE MIAi TWN SABBATWN MARIA hH MAGDALHNH ERCETAI PRWI SKOTIAS ETI
OUSHS EIS TO MNHMEION KAI BLEPEI TON LIQON HRMENON EK TOU MNHMEIOU.
However, a popular interlinear has translated SKOTIAS ETI OUSHS as
"darkness yet being on it," meaning that darkness was still on (in?) the
tomb, and not "it [the path or land] still being dark" as Mary went to
the tomb.
Do you know of other examples of this construction that would support
one or the other reading?
