In 1Thessalonians 4:3, [TOUTA GAR ESTIN QELHMA TOU QEOU, hO hAGIASMOS
hMWN, APEXESQAI hUMAS APO THS PORNEIAS] is hO hAGIASMOS hMWN further
explaining QEOU, i.e. "God, the (one who is)your sanctification..."?
My English translations read:
KJV 1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your
sanctification,
that ye should abstain from fornication:
NIV 1 Thessalonians 4:3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified:
that you
should avoid sexual immorality;
NAB 1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your
sanctification; that is,
that you abstain from sexual immorality;
NRS 1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your
sanctification: that you
abstain from fornication;
These seem to imply that hO hAGIASMOS is to define 'will' rather than
God. Am I misunderstanding the Greek or the English?
As always, many thanks,
Rion
